60s Theme Party

The 60s Theme Party should reflect the turmoil, joy, and discovery that occured during this tumultuous time in history. It was a time of great upheaval, womens rights were on the foreground, Vietnam gripped the nation, and the beloved John F Kennedy was assasinated. It was also a time of great accomplishment, fun, and patriotic pride.

Music for any 60s theme party should start with Chevy Chase and the immortal song and dance called the Twist. Ofcourse, if you wanted to, you could base any 60s theme party entirely on the antics and music inspired by Woodstock. The weekend of August 15-17, 1969 is the weekend that would change the country, and in a way the world.

The performers at Woodstock were, Richie Havens; Country Joe McDonald; Jimi Hendrix; John Sebastian; Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young; Melanie; Arlo Guthrie; CCR, Janis Joplin; Jefferson Airplane; and the Grateful Dead. Coose any or a mixture of any of these Classic Bands and performers as your background music. It will set the mood and bring back a torrent of memories.

Any moon based themes such as astronaut cutouts, moon rocks, or even blown up pictures of the moon could also be used as decoration and as a nod to the incredible achievement of putting a man on the moon.

Of course, no 60s theme party would be complete without some great traditional Martinis...shaken or stirred. For a modern twist, take advantage of the flavored vodkas on the market today. Mix a couplke of ounces of your favorite flavors together, shake with ice, and serve either straight up or on the rocks.
